Contemporary Cambodian artist Leang Seckon is a prominent member of the emerging Cambodian art scene. The artist’s work draws heavily on intimate narratives of his childhood memories.

Having grown up during the violent period under the rule of the Khmer Rouge, he witnessed government-enforced brutality that led many to famine, sickness, and death. He explains that his artworks allow him to experience and express the freedom that was denied to him as a child, and draws parallels between the nation’s past and present.
