XIAO LU
b. 1962 in Hangzhou, China. Lives and works in Beijing, China. Best known for raising a gun and shooting at her work in the National Art Museum of China a few months before the Tiananmen Square protest of 1989, thus precipitating the closing down of the show by the government, and her brief arrest, Xiao Lu is considered one of China’s most influential and provocative female artists. Some of her most famous works include Sperm, a documentary about her unsuccessful search for a sperm donor and her Love Letter charcoal series.
