ZHAO GANG
b. 1961, Beijing, China. Lives and works between Beijing, China and NY, USA.One of the youngest members of the Stars Group, Gang participated in some of post-1949 China’s earliest modern art exhibitions before embarking on his own career in Germany and New York. A history painter with a dark sense of irony, his painting explores the themes of the legacy of imperial systems, politics and aesthetics, the inevitability of death, and the awkward position the artist feels he’s in.
