These works, entitled Naïve and Sentimental Paintings, are a new departure from the artist’s oeuvre, utilising computer technology to create ground breaking abstractions of landscapes and figures - the flavour of which are reminiscent of the origins of abstract painting in the 1920’s. Young downloaded photographic images everyday from the web, and selected one image in the morning then painted the image in oil on canvas. It is Naïve and sentimental as the series conveys a certain mood, resonant of that time. Form is reduced down to abstraction, only Colour remains truthful to the original images. The process becomes a dialogue between the human and the computer, John Young likes to call it "Human and Computer Friendship".
