About this work: Do you want to experience being a collector and treat an artist to a meal? You can pick a restaurant in the city where the artist lives. She will have a meal there and send you back a thank you card with photo, receipts and any inspiration she had during the meal. It's the time to be a professional collector!
Doreen, Wing Yan Chan’s (b. 1987 Hong Kong) artistic practice focuses on the investigations of personal perception, materiality, and daily details that are often overlooked. Key elements in her works include interpersonal relationships, personal memories, and fragmentary moments of daily life in the city. As a lens-based and site-specific artist, Chan believes that images are merely the raw materials. She integrates images with various media to re-examine the tensions between herself and the surrounding world.
She has received training in visual communication and photography. She graduated with an MA in Art Education from the Art Institute of Chicago in 2021. Chan has had solo exhibitions at Lianzhou Foto Festival 2013 (Lianzhou, China), Kigoja: Independent Arts Space Initiative (Seoul, South Korea) and HB Station: Contemporary Art Research Centre (Guangzhou, China). She has also exhibited her works in Beijing (China), Gwangju (South Korea), Macau, Hong Kong, New York (US) and several cities in the UK. Chan was listed as a finalist in the Three Shadows Photography Award in 2015, the Art Sanya Huayu Youth Award in 2019, and the VH Award in its fourth year. She was named Cultured Magazine Young Artists in 2021 and received the Pritzker Fellowship. Chan currently lives in Chicago and Hong Kong.
